Our Community Commitment

By creating a Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) statement, Family Services of Montgomery County is committed to creating an environment where everyone feels seen, valued, respected, and empowered.

As a change agent of service, we acknowledge that inequities within our system and the larger society in which we live create challenges and obstacles to the equitable space we are committed to building. 

We understand that creating a climate of healing and inclusion is crucial for everyone to feel safe, valued, and heard. This climate encourages collaboration, nurtures relationships, and develops responses that respect and honor the diverse perspectives of our staff, program participants, and volunteers.

  • In our efforts to foster a community where each individual thrives intellectually, socially, and emotionally, we recognize the immense power of uplifting the unique gifts, diverse backgrounds, and experiences of every member. 
  • Equity is recognizing the value of each individual’s voice and creating intentional opportunities to increase accessibility, reduce barriers, and advocate for systemic change.
  • By integrating trauma-informed practices with cultural humility, we aim to address and foster a deeper understanding of complex issues by doing the work of learning together and embarking on a journey toward a future where individuals can truly thrive and find belonging. 
  • We strive to create accessible spaces that remove obstacles, empowering individuals to contribute fully to our communities and reach their full potential. 
  • Through advocacy and accountability, we will strengthen community members to engage in meaningful actions that support and uplift one another.
  • Our organization is committed to ongoing learning, reflection, and action to ensure that our spaces are welcoming to all and conducive to creating a better, more inclusive world.

This statement aims to communicate our organization's dedication to creating a nurturing environment that values the diversity and contributions of all community members, promotes healing and belonging, and actively works toward an equitable, inclusive future for all.
