Statement on the Pennsylvania State Budget Impasse

Statement on the Pennsylvania State Budget Impasse
November 9, 2015

Pennsylvania has not passed a state budget for the fiscal year that began July 1, 2015. Since that time, funding from the state for health and human services has been held up. The Montgomery County Commissioners had continued to advance funding to health and human service organizations that was directed from the state through the county.

On November 5, we were notified that the Montgomery County Commissioners would no longer advance funding due to the limits of their own financial reserves.

Family Services will continue to provide services for our programs at the level of our existing contracts. Family Services has the financial capability, through our reserves and borrowing capability, to do this until the budget impasse is resolved, although we hope the budget problem will be solved sooner than later. We encourage our clients and supporters to contact their legislators and the Governor’s office and urge them to work toward a compromise solution.

At Family Services, we are able to extend a helping hand because of caring people who believe in our mission. Please visit our website to make a tax-deductible donation in support of Family Services’ important work with children, seniors and families across Montgomery County, Pa. Your donation is an investment in Montgomery County.
