Seniors, Children, Families Benefit from Outreach Programs

Blue Bell, PA, October 22, 2013 – Family Services of Montgomery County received more than $6500 recently from the Montgomery County Association of REALTORS® (MCAR) for community-based programs, and MCAR will work with Family Services this month in its annual REALTORS® Reach Out campaign.

MCAR has a long-standing tradition of giving back to the community where its members live and work. In fact, over the years, MCAR has donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to these local programs. “Family Services is a natural fit for MCAR’s charitable endeavors. The REALTORS® of Montgomery County are proud community residents, employers and employees and have a vested interest in providing time and resources to agencies that enhance their community,” explained Joyce Foesig, MCAR President.

Earlier this year, MCAR sponsored its annual Charity Golf Outing where REALTORS® and members of the real estate industry enjoyed a day of golf and networking. The event raised more than $6500 for Family Services which helps to spearhead programs like Meals on Wheels and Families and Schools Together (FAST). “While the golf event is a great way to take a break and connect with colleagues and friends, we’re thrilled to be able to provide a monetary donation and understand the importance it has in keeping these much-need programs going,” said Jane Maslowski, Chairperson, MCAR’s Community Outreach Committee.

Currently, MCAR members are volunteering their time to the community for the industry’s annual REALTORS® Reach Out program, a month-long, statewide initiative recognizing the volunteerism and service efforts of REALTORS®. In the past five years, more than 7,400 REALTORS® across the state have participated, donated nearly $210,000 and collected more than 41,000 pounds of food and 2,000 pieces of clothing for charitable organizations.

Locally, through Project HEARTH – which helps to keep seniors in their homes and remain independent through special programs and services – MCAR members will be visiting seniors throughout the county and making sure they have working smoke detectors, proper lighting, safety equipment in the bathrooms and other essential items to help them stay safe in their homes. Foesig said, “We’re so proud to be able to participate in programs like these that have direct, positive impacts on our community. It’s what keeps us coming back to do more.”
