Family Services Receives $1,000 Grant from LongHorn Steakhouse
in support of Montgomery County Truancy Abatement Initiative

POTTSTOWN, PA, May 20, 2015 — Family Services has been selected by LongHorn Steakhouse in Pottstown to receive a $1,000 grant as part of the Restaurant Community Grants Program from the Darden Restaurants Foundation, the charitable arm of Darden Restaurants. The annual grants program empowers each of the LongHorn Steakhouse locations to help award a $1,000 grant to support local community programs. This donation will support Family Services’ Montgomery County Truancy Abatement Initiative.

The Montgomery County Truancy Abatement Initiative provides case management services that address the causal factors of poor school attendance. It is a collaborative partnership between schools, law enforcement, magisterial district courts, and public and private social service agencies. Family Services serves as the lead agency of the initiative and provides outreach workers who manage and coordinate the delivery of services, including home and school visitation, court-based assessments and referrals, family therapy, behavioral health services, parent education, and tutoring services.

“A good education is the key to developing responsible and independent young people,” said Kelly Canally-Brown, director of community prevention services, Family Services. “Truancy threatens our youth’s ability to achieve self-sufficiency and increases their risk for drug use, academic failure and school drop-out. Thanks to the support of the Darden Restaurants Foundation and LongHorn Steakhouse, Family Services will continue to reach out to Pottstown area youth to ensure they are on track to graduate high school.”

“We’re proud to support Family Services and the Montgomery County Truancy Abatement Initiative through our Restaurant Community Grants program,” said Stephanie Ghertner, director, Darden Foundation. “Our team members are incredibly passionate about getting involved in their local communities, and this program enables them to do just that.”
